Engineering ! Can I have more information, please!?
Many students think that Engineering is the only option that the students of PCM can pursue, as a career, after class 12. With the advent of new technologies and increased dependency on other related industries, now, many coaching centers have come out with a bunch of creative career paths to suit each student’s aptitude and passion.
To get into Engineering and to join the discipline of their choice and in their dream college, one needs to be good at Physics and Mathematics and should stand out in his/her scores in the competitive examinations like IIT JEE and in the state-level entrance examinations.
For a little more information about the due date and the related logistics, please refer to the respective official websites.
- What is the difference between JEE MAIN and JEE ADVANCED?
JEE is a Joint Entrance Examination at a national level.
JEE MAIN is an entrance examination conducted for screening students for undergraduate engineering programmes by NITs, CFTs, IIITs and SFIs.
It is also a qualifying test for JEE ADVANCED.
JEE ADVANCED is a qualifying examination to get admission into the IIT, subject to the fulfilment of the eligibility criteria with the All India Ranking.
- Do students take up JEE MAINS and the respective state examination for engineering?
Yes, students take up JEE MAINS and state-conducted entrance examinations and choose whatever suits them and in whichever they get a good ranking.
Each state has its own entrance examination to allocate students to various state-level colleges.
- Is JEE more tough than the state-level entrance examination?
Yes, it is. The JEE standards are higher than the state level entrance examination.
- What is the advantage of appearing for the state-level entrance examination?
Competition, in the gravity of difficulty, will be less, compared to JEE examination papers.
The examination would be a little easy to crack for those who are prepared for JEE.
The fee for the studies would be relatively less compared to IITs.
In JEE, difference by one percentile can throw you many ranks apart.
- What is the syllabus should you get prepared for JEE MAIN?
Getting prepared for the NCERT, class 11 and class 12 is good.
- When can one take JEE ADVANCED?
One can take JEE ADVANCED only after qualifying in JEE MAINS.
You need to prepare yourself exceptionally very well for JEE ADVANCED.
Preparation for the syllabi of class 11 and class 12 is not sufficient for JEE ADVANCED.
- What will be the marking system of the state-level entrance examinations?
One mark will be awarded for each correct answer in MCQs.
There is no negative marking for incorrect answers or unattempted questions.
The number of questions varies from JEE.
- What is KCET?
It is an entrance examination meant for the students of the Karnataka region and the children of defence personnel.
You can read the other advantages and exemptions mentioned on the website.
Seats are allocated in Government and Government Aided colleges.
Easier than JEE.
This is a state-level examination, like any other respective -state-level entrance examination
MCQs with no negative marking.
The fee structure is relatively less compared to COMED K.
- What is COMED K examination?
Students all over India can take up this examination.
This is conducted by the state of Karnataka. This is an option for non-Karnataka students who want to study in prestigious colleges of Karnataka.
Seats are allotted in private colleges.
Easier than JEE, and of the same difficulty as any state-level entrance examination.
Students have to get prepared well, as there would be more competition from various different states.
Questions will be in the form of MCQs.
The fee will be higher compared to the respective state-level entrance examinations.
- Should one take JEE MAIN paper 2, before taking B?Arch.,?
Not necessary. For colleges under JEE MAIN and JEE ADVANCED (IITs and NITs) accept the JEE SCORE.
NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture, conducted by the Council of Architecture) is necessary for the students who want to take up B.Arch.,
- Is it necessary to appear for JEE EXAM for B.Tech.,?
No, it is not necessary for all the Institutes.
To get into institutes that offer B.Tech., one has to appear for the exams conducted by the Universities like BITSAT, MUOET, VITEEE etc.
A student can also get into B.Tech., by appearing for the state-level entrance exams like KCET, MHTCET etc to get admission into institutes within the state.
- What is the difference between BE and B.Tech?
Both are of four years of duration and both are recognized courses.
They have good career growth and job opportunities.
Students preparing themselves for IIT JEE and state-level entrance tests appear for these courses.
Bachelor of Engineering is more on understanding the fundamentals and theoretical knowledge and relatively less on practical applications. Bachelor of Technology emphasizes more on practical application (application-centric) and stresses industrial visits and make them mandatory. Here, the Institutes which offer IIT, NIT have courses for B.Tech., and the course is more frequently updated and expects the students to upgrade themselves at the same pace.
Job opportunities and your salary package always depend on the institute from which you graduate and the skills you possess.
